Pride Resource Partners Awards Scholarships at MiraCosta College Scholarship Banquet
Pride Resource Partners’ Andrew Yoshimura attended MiraCosta College’s Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet to present The Joe Maak & Pride Resource Partners LLC Scholarship. Andrew, alongside MiraCosta College’s Superintendent/President, Dr. Sunita Cooke (pictured), presented the scholarship prize to this year’s four recipients.
These funds come at a crucial time as the students prepare for the 2019-2020 school year. Scholarships can make education more accessible by curtailing the costs of books, supplies, and tuition. They grant students the freedom to focus on academic responsibilities, internships, and involvement in student organizations.
The Joe Maak & Pride Resource Partners LLC Scholarship endowment was created in 2016 to be awarded annually to an LGBTQIA+ student or active ally. The scholarship helps support students who, in addition to typical academic stress, experience high rates of mental health issues, homelessness and substance abuse, and for whom institutional support is not always present or obvious. Joe Maak is an active member of San Diego’s LGBTQIA community with a special interest in preventing bullying.
